How do I transfer a .uk, .co.uk, or .org.uk domain?

To initiate a .uk, .co.uk, or .org.uk transfer, you must:

How do I transfer a .com, .net, or other global domains?

For global TLDs (Top-Level Domains), follow these three steps:

Unlock each of the domain names you’d like to transfer with your current registrar.
Get an authorization (also known as an EPP code or transfer key) from your current registrar. This isn’t necessary in all cases, such as when transferring country-code domain (ccTLDs). If the authorization codes aren’t shown in your account manager, ask your current registrar to email them to you.
Verify contact information on your domain name. The administrator’s contact information may be used by your current registrar during the transfer process.

Is there a 60-day rule?

Yes, for global domains like .com, ICANN regulations prevent transfers if the domain was registered or transferred within the last 60 days. This rule does not apply to .uk or .co.uk domains, which can be moved at any time.

Can I transfer an expired domain?

It depends on how long ago it expired. If it’s within the “Grace Period” (usually 30 days), you can often still transfer it, but we recommend renewing it with your current provider first to avoid the domain being deleted mid-transfer.

Why did my transfer fail?

The most common reasons for a failed transfer are:

The domain is still “Locked” at the old registrar.
The EPP/Auth code was entered incorrectly.
The IPS Tag was not updated (for UK domains).
